Hawick Summer Festival 2008

CROWDS of Teries striding out at midnight for charity, junior talent show, kids fancy dress parade, quiz, pram race, Itz a Knockout competition, final of the weel kent faces and the fun filled exciting day of ‘Party on the Pitch' are some of the main events that will take place during Hawick Summer Festival 2008.

The town will be brought to life from 16 th to 24 th August with events to suit everyone.   The committee have been working hard and plans are coming together to make 2008 bigger and better than before.

The festival will be officially opened at 1pm on Saturday 16 th August with the arrival of Flower Princess and her attendants at Trinity Gardens.   Presentations will be made with entertainment there for the whole family.   A kid's fancy dress parade will take to the streets to impress the crowds and the judges, finishing at Hawick Town Hall for the prize giving and the popular Junior Talent Show.

By night the festival will bring the second, ever so well supported   'Midnight Walk', which is a 13.1mile hike around the streets of the town in aid of local charities.
Sunday sees the Pram Race, which we are hoping for a big entry in 2008.   Gather all you friends, colleagues or sports to be judged from 2pm in the Common Haugh, with the race starting at 2.30pm for a trophy and cash prize.

Other highlights to look out for in the programme are the popular guided walks, Indian, Italian and Chinese nights and a Quiz in the YM clubrooms.

The final weekend of the Summer Festival is set to be massive with the fantastic 'Party on the Pitch' at the Volunteer Park on Saturday 23 August. A line-up of local bands including Scocha, Neumatics, Honey Badgers, and Stevie T Band plus Elvis himself!!   Bands will be located in the main marquee with a separate beer tent being situated just next door! Youngsters can enjoy slides, trampolines, climbing wall, bouncy castle, ski jump and face painting to name but a few attractions.   Come along and enjoy the music, bring a picnic and most of all have fun!

The fun continues for the final day, Sunday 24 August, at the Volunteer Park where the past five years' 'Weel Kent Faces' will clash in 'Itz a Knockout'.   Also on site will be face painting, slides, balloon modelling, Punch and Judy and other attractions. The Summer Festival will be brought to a close with the Final of the Weel Kent Faces 2008 in the Volunteer Clubrooms afterwards.
